I will admit the last couple of weeks have been hard for me. So many changes in such a short amount of time. Many people I have loved seeing every day are moving away, moving on.
There is so much I want to write on this subject and these events, but no string of eloquently written words could even begin to describe the way I feel at this moment. I could try to write the most heart-wrenching story about all the brilliant people who brought joy to my everyday life are now no longer there. That still wouldn’t be enough. Many people touch your life in ways they might not even know. Tell them, tell them how you felt when they gave you a high-five at the end of a long shift and told you did a great job. Tell them how important they are to you. I know I haven’t done that enough and sometimes you won’t have a chance, but if you do, say it and let them know.
We all have the ability to make a difference in someone’s life, even if it was a small, insignificant moment to you; it might have made a big impact on the other person’s life. Maybe just saying hi, asking how they are doing, lifting them up, telling them as a matter-of-factly that they are doing a good job, they may not feel like they are. Maybe once-in-a-lifetime someone will ask one of the deepest questions, “Are you happy?” A simple three-worded sentence packed full of meaning. That is the type of person you must cherish. They care. They care about your mental, emotional, and physical well-being. They care. Almost just as important as that three-worded sentence is a hug that lasts 5 seconds longer than usual. Hugs, like that three-worded sentence, show how much you care and love that person. When was the last time you asked someone if they were happy, or saw that maybe they needed a tighter hug that lasted a little longer?
Be that Once-In-A-Lifetime Friend to someone. Be That Friend To Everyone. Be the friend who makes people tear-up because they feel so loved by you. Be the friend who will have late night talks and make each other laugh so hard you both cry. Be the friend who is down for long hikes without maps where you end up behind waterfalls saving stranded fish. Be the friend who will drive 12 hours straight just to see them. Be A Friend. Be The Good In The World. Touch Someone’s Life. Do It Now And Everyday. The world needs a friend like you.
