Change, My Old Friend.

Change is ever present. Sometimes welcomed, mostly its not. Its scary, exciting, sad, and happy. This year, 2020, has been the year of big changes, of course there is the pandemic that brought chaos into our daily lives. It also altered my family life here in this small, midwest town in many ways; one in particular. My friend, my “twin”, the Barney to my Andy, the Gilligan to my Skipper, the Patrick to my SpongeBob, is moving 992 miles away; chasing after his dreams. Even though I could feel my heart break a little as I watched his car disappear from sight yesterday, I felt a little proud of him as he took this next step towards the life he has wanted for so long. Although, living here won’t be the same without him.

Life is constant change. The sky changes, morning turns to night, seasons change, and people change. Everything is built around change. We must learn to be okay with it. To embrace the ebb and flow of life. If we don’t we will spend our whole life sad and afraid. Every high and every low allows us to grow in strength and in character. Change is rarely an easy obstacle to conquer, but that is life. We need to learn to walk hand in hand with change as if he was an old friend. He’s been there since the beginning and he will be with us to the end. He has accompanied everyone and everything that has ever lived. So grab hold of his hand and begin your life embracing whatever may come.
